Food And Agriculture Organization Of The United Nations Food And Nutrition Security Enhancement Project (FANSEP)

Introduction Government of Nepal has been implementing Food and Nutrition Security Enhancement Project (FANSEP) with technical assistance of UN FAO. FOCUS-Nepal, a NGO working in Dhading has been acting as service provider (SP) in the project. This report covers the period ‘July to October 2022.’ Objectives The overall objective of the project is to enhance climate resilience, improve agricultural productivity and nutrition practice of targeted smallholder farmers in the project area. The specific objectives of the project are as below;  Climate and Nutrition Smart Technology Adaptation and Dissemination.  Income Generation and Diversification.  Improving Nutrition Security.  Gender equity, social inclusion, citizen engagement and building resilience to climate smart practices are the crosscutting strategies of the project. Location: The FANSEP project location in Dhading is Gajuri and Benighat Rorang Rural Municipalities which are located at southern part of the district joining Galchhi RM in the east, Gandaki RM of Gorkha in west, Siddhalekh RM in the North and Chitwan & Makawanpur in the south. Prithivi Highway has crossed this area for 32 kilometres Mauwakhola to BelkhuKhola. These areas are located in the lap of Mahabharata range 300 meters (Jogimara, Benighat Rorang-10) to Wakchuli 1980 meter (Gajuri ward -4). This area is situated with sloppy landscape facing towards north raising from south. Target beneficiaries: Targeted beneficiaries of the project are earthquake affected, food insecure, disadvantaged, marginalised ethnic communities, and women headed households of the project area. Poor, vulnerable and socially excluded (PVSE) peoples are the prime beneficiaries of the project and more than 65% women are female. In case of Dhading, the targeted beneficiaries are mostly Chepang, Tamang, Dalits and marginalised people inhabitant of inner Mahabharata range who are in subsistence farming.
